Dear All
Our love and greetings from Guatemala! We have attached photos of the Volcano Fuego’s eruption last Thursday. It has been on the BBC world service! The first few photos were taken early in the morning from La Casa de Los Angelitos where all the younger children attend School. We noticed the great plume of smoke rising up behind the mountains that surround Santiago, and realised that Fuego was very active. 33,000 people were evacuated from the slopes of the volcano. The land is fertile, but much cheaper, so all the poorer folk live there. From our photos, you may see that the sky is more blue – this is because of the altitude. We are at 6,660 feet – over twice the height of Snowdon. Fuego is at 12,346 feet. It is one of the most active volcanoes in Central America. The Pacaya Volcano is active and very close to where we are. It erupted 2 years ago, and covered Guatemala City in ash up to several inches high.
The other photos show some of our children playing in the field alongside La Casa de Los Angelitos. We have to pay £1 for 12 children per session. Some of the children found a pear tree hanging over into the field, and we caught
several scrumping.
This week we have started providing breakfast for many of our children who arrive at School with no food. Their families are too poor. We are already noticing a difference in them. Having food inside them enables them to be more alert to study.
Please pray for more sponsors for the children. Next year in January, 34 more children will enter the Main School, and Pre-School will be receiving more 3 and 4 year olds.
May the Lord abundantly bless you all, and empower you more and more by His Spirit to reach and impact the communities where you live for His glory. With much love from Russ, Linda and Luke. XXX
