Dear friends,
Thank you for praying about the recent threats in Santiago. We are praising the Lord that there were no murders over the weekend. One boy died through an accident with the torches however. Accidents happen far too frequently here sadly. People go to the coast for a baptism and someone drowns for lack of care. We know of two such cases in Santiago. People will run across the main road rather than walk across the bridges and there are deaths all the time from this. Again we personally know a 14 year old girl who died in this way.
We are madly searching for a bigger venue where we can hold our church services. At the moment, there is nowhere at a reasonable price. We want to make it such that families who have their children in the school attend one of our weekly meetings therefore strengthening the connection between the church and the school. Good teaching of the Word is so necessary and it is only that with the anointing of the Holy Spirit which will change hearts and mind-sets here in Santiago. The school assemblies are going extremely well and there is definitely a coming together of the older children as we spend this time together. The assemblies in the pre-school are a 'hit' and have become the highlight of the week!! The message to the children is so important as churches here in the rural towns and villages will not hear sound teaching from the Word. Folk are not challenged in their walk with the Lord and the majority do not change at all. People do very bad things and nothing is dealt with.
We are praying for better vehicles. The black car has gear box problems, and is off the road again!! This has become a growing concern for us because no one really wants to break down in Guatemala!
At the moment we are negotiating the possibility of working with another college in the new year. Things look good at the moment and if it all goes through the cost will be reduced by an incredible amount. Please pray for this as the cost of educating each child is extremely challenging. Please also pray that a building be found for our services.
May the Lord abundantly bless you all,
With our love in Him,
Russ, Linda, Sophie, Luke and Stephanie.
